Letās be honest: getting moving and staying fit can feel like a chore sometimes. Especially if youāre like me and the thought of running on a treadmill in a dark gym for hours or lifting heavy weights just doesnāt spark joy.
After my knee replacement surgery, I knew I needed to focus on low-impact exercises that kept me activeĀ andĀ happy. The trick? Finding ways to make fitness enjoyable –Ā and maybe even a little fun.
My first stop was joining the YMCA, where I stumbled upon chair yoga. And let me tell you, the irony isnāt lost on me! I used to chuckle at my parents for doing chair yoga, and now here I am, fully converted. Who’s laughing now!Ā (Side note: my mom actually broke her hip doing chair yoga once –Ā but thatās a story for another day!)
Now, I love it. Chair yoga is perfect for anyone looking to ease into movement while being gentle on the joints. Plus, itās a reminder that fitness doesnāt have to mean intense sweat sessions –Ā it can be as simple as finding something that feels good for your body.
Another favorite? Water aerobics at the St. Pete Beach Recreation Center. Their big outdoor pool is an absolute dream. Sunshine, sparkling water, and gentle exercise that feels more like play than work. Itās the perfect way to stay active without putting stress on my joints.
That said, I amĀ definitelyĀ a native Floridian through and through. My thin blood wonāt let me step into the Gulf –Ā or the pool –Ā until the water hits a cozy 80 degrees. So, for now, Iām waiting patiently for the warmer weather to roll in.

Fitness doesnāt have to be about January resolutions or punishing yourself with workouts you donāt enjoy. Itās about finding ways to move your body that make you feel good, energized, and happy. For me, thatās chair yoga, water aerobics, and embracing the little joys of low-impact movement.
How about you? What do you do to stay active in a way thatās actually enjoyable? Iād love to hear your tips and ideas.
Warm Regards,
Jeannie
